Spreading the Spirit of Ubuntu Through Film Festivals Worldwide
For someone new to the Film Festival Circut, I am absolutely blown away, thoroughly impressed, and forever committed to filming and documenting stories of Ubuntu worldwide.
We started the year off with screenings at international film festivals in the United States. We then crossed the Atlantic to the UK, for screenings in Birmingham and London, flew to Australia for more screenings, and then back to the States to spread the Ubuntu message in the Northwest and now the East Coast.
Since January 2024, thousands of people have watched and been inspired by the “Spirit of Ubuntu” documentary. Check out more details about our worldwide 2024 tour here:
Each time we received a notification that our film had been accepted into a film festival for a screening we jumped for joy! So far we have won 17 International Awards in different categories such as Best Short, Best Documentary, Best Music, and Best Narrative. We are bursting with pride and joy.
It’s amazing to be able to experience the power of film festivals in person. I’m most impressed with seeing films you can’t see anywhere else. Everything out at the theaters now is so Hollywood and so cheesy. The stories have no impact, meaning, or real value to me personally. Watching films with compelling stories of high value and connecting with other filmmakers who are also bringing about awareness and positive change energizes and excites me.
It stirred my spirit; wow these are my people. We need to start looking back to the motherland, through these concepts of Ubuntu to get back in touch with our roots. I’m saying that as an African-American and that’s how I feel about Ubuntu. - Deadrick, filmmaker
I am so privileged and honored that I was invited because how inspiring is that movie? It demonstrates what is possible if you have the commitment and put your mind to doing whatever it is you set out to do. The fact that you all covered the expanse of Africa, North, South, East, and West is no easy feat. Respect is due. The humanity and the generosity that it took to achieve I can only applaud and respect you all. So well done. I have to now in some little way implement what you have done. Thank you for inspiring me. Show it to the world and I recommend everyone come and see this film. - Joan
The feedback from the Port Angeles, WA screening was one of the most heart-warming we had received. After a lengthy Q&A session, many audience members stayed after the screening to find out how they could use their privilege to support the Ubuntu movement.
Four Simple Ways to Support Ubuntu
During all of the Q&A sessions, we shared these four simple but profound ways you can support Ubuntu:

Join us on Facebook. The public Facebook group called Ubuntu Family to meet and get to know the people that we are supporting and helping.
Donate directly to the organizations listed on the Ubuntu Empowerment Fund website. Visit the Spirit of Ubuntu website’s Organization page to donate to specific organizations.
